Antibiotics DOES NOT help you get over a cold or flu faster

Colds and flu are caused by viruses; antibiotics only kill bacteria and do nothing against them. The CDC states plainly that taking antibiotics for a viral illness won't help you feel better and only adds side-effect risk plus contributes to antibiotic resistance. Exception: if a viral infection leads to a secondary bacterial infection like pneumonia, antibiotics treat that complication, not the original virus.
